What to know about asiamed kinesiology tape

Short answer

asiamed kinesiology tape is an elastic adhesive tape used to support movement-based rehabilitation without rigidly immobilising the taped area.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

At a glance

Type
Elastic adhesive rehabilitation tape
Main role
A possible aid alongside movement and exercise
Skin rule
Use only on clean, dry, intact skin

The short answer

A physiotherapist may use it alongside exercise, activity changes, or other rehabilitation measures. The tape does not diagnose an injury, repair damaged tissue by itself, or replace assessment when pain, weakness, swelling, or reduced movement persists.

How the tape fits into care

Kinesiology tape stretches and moves with the skin, so it differs from rigid sports tape used to limit joint motion. Clinicians may choose a particular placement and tension according to the movement they want to cue or the area they want to support. What you feel can vary: some people notice a gentle pulling sensation or greater awareness of posture and movement, while others notice little change.

Brand choice is only one part of taping. The reason for using it, correct application, skin tolerance, and the wider rehabilitation plan matter more than relying on the tape alone.

Using it safely

Apply tape to clean, dry, intact skin and follow the placement shown by your physiotherapist. Avoid putting it over an open wound, active rash, skin infection, or an area with fragile skin. Smooth the tape without creating tight folds, and do not add extra stretch unless a clinician has demonstrated the technique.

Check the skin and circulation around the taped area. Remove the tape gently if it causes increasing itch, burning, blistering, marked redness, numbness, colour change, or worsening pain. Peeling it back slowly while supporting the skin is usually more comfortable than pulling it off quickly.

When symptoms need assessment

Arrange a clinical review if pain or swelling is getting worse, movement remains limited, the limb feels weak or unstable, or symptoms return whenever the tape is removed. These features may need a clearer diagnosis and a rehabilitation plan rather than repeated self-taping.

Seek urgent medical care for a cold or pale limb, severe swelling after injury, loss of feeling, inability to use the affected limb, a visibly deformed joint, or breathing difficulty. Remove the tape if it feels restrictive while arranging help.

Useful questions for your clinician

Ask what the tape is intended to change, how you will judge whether it helps, and which exercises should accompany it. Also clarify how to apply and remove it, which skin reactions mean you should stop, and whether another type of support would suit your injury better.

Questions people ask

Can I apply asiamed kinesiology tape myself?

You can reapply it yourself after a physiotherapist has shown you the correct direction, position, and tension for your specific goal. Stop if the tape irritates your skin or makes symptoms worse.

Can kinesiology tape replace physiotherapy exercises?

No. Tape may provide a movement cue or temporary support, but exercise and graded activity usually address strength, mobility, and function more directly.

Should kinesiology tape feel tight?

It may feel gently supportive, but it should not cause throbbing, numbness, tingling, colour change, or increasing pain. Remove it if any of those symptoms appear.
