Armpit wart removal: options and aftercare

A clinician may use freezing, controlled heat, scraping or another targeted method after considering the growth's size, attachment and exact position. More than one treatment visit can sometimes be needed.

The armpit combines thin skin, hair follicles, moisture and friction. These features affect both treatment choice and wound healing. Freezing damages the treated tissue so it sheds; electrosurgery uses controlled electrical energy to remove or destroy it.

Removal clears the visible growth but does not instantly eliminate virus from surrounding skin, so another wart can appear. Possible effects include soreness, blistering, pigment change and a small scar.

Before the appointment, mention medicines that affect bleeding, allergies, previous thick scars and problems with wound healing. Do not shave irritated skin immediately before treatment unless the clinic specifically advises it.

After removal, follow the dressing and washing instructions you receive. Keep the site clean, reduce rubbing, use a fresh razor only after the surface has healed, and avoid pulling at a crust or blister. Check before applying deodorant or antiperspirant to an open area.

Contact the treating clinic if pain is worsening rather than settling, bleeding does not stop with firm pressure, or the area develops expanding redness, warmth, swelling, pus or an unpleasant discharge. Fever or feeling acutely unwell warrants prompt medical care.

Return for reassessment if the lesion regrows, the wound does not close, or a new bump looks different from the original. A changing pigmented growth should be examined rather than repeatedly treated as a wart.

Ask how the diagnosis was confirmed, why the proposed method fits this location, what wound care supplies you need, and when shaving and underarm products can restart. Discuss alternatives if pigment change or scarring is a particular concern.
