Understanding an anxious feeling in your body

Short answer
An anxious feeling in the body can reflect the nervous system's alert response, causing tension, trembling, sweating, stomach discomfort or a faster heartbeat.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

Why anxiety feels physical
The sensations are real bodily changes, even when no immediate danger is present. They may appear around a recognisable stressor or seem to arrive unexpectedly. A new physical symptom still deserves attention to its context and warning signs.
What the alert response can feel like
Adrenaline can raise heart rate, sharpen attention and redirect blood flow, while muscles brace for action. Breathing may become quick or shallow, which can contribute to tingling or light-headedness. Panic Disorder can present with sudden intense fear and bodily symptoms; Generalised Anxiety Disorder often presents with ongoing worry and tension. Hyperthyroidism can present with nervousness, heat intolerance, tremor or a fast heartbeat, so physical causes sometimes need checking.
Settling your body safely
Place both feet on the floor and orient yourself by naming what you can see, hear and feel. Relax your jaw and shoulders, then breathe gently without forcing a very deep breath. If it is safe, brief walking or stretching can use some of the body's activation. Reduce caffeine or nicotine if either reliably makes the sensations stronger.
Note what happened beforehand, the sensations, how they changed and any medicines or stimulants involved. If episodes recur, lead to avoidance or disrupt sleep and daily tasks, a Mental Health Assessment can clarify the pattern and suitable support while a clinician considers physical contributors.
Signs that need urgent care
Call UAE emergency services for chest pressure, severe breathing difficulty, fainting, a seizure, one-sided weakness, sudden confusion or thoughts of harming yourself. Prompt medical advice is also appropriate for a persistently fast or irregular heartbeat, unexplained weight change, marked heat intolerance, or symptoms that began after starting or changing a medicine.
Questions that make the visit more useful
Ask whether your symptom pattern needs a physical examination or tests, how anxiety conditions are assessed, and which coping or treatment options match your situation. Share any family history, caffeine or supplement use, menstrual or hormonal changes, sleep disruption and the effect on everyday activities.

Questions people ask
Why do I feel anxious when my thoughts seem calm?
Body sensations can start before you consciously recognise a trigger, and stimulants, poor sleep, medicines or physical conditions may mimic anxiety. Repeated unexplained episodes merit assessment.
Can lack of sleep create an anxious feeling?
Sleep disruption can leave the nervous system more reactive and make palpitations, irritability and worry harder to manage. Persistent insomnia and anxiety can reinforce one another.
What should I record before seeing a clinician?
Write down the onset, triggers, physical sensations, duration, sleep, food, caffeine, medicines and what helped. Include any chest pain, fainting, weight change or safety concerns.
