Anxiety and sweaty feet

Short answer
Anxiety can activate sweating in the feet, while frequent or unexplained episodes may reflect plantar hyperhidrosis or another health issue.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.
At a glance

Why anxiety can make feet sweat
The body's stress response stimulates sweat glands, including those on the soles. Worry about visible moisture, slipping footwear or odour can then provoke more anxiety and maintain the cycle.
Recognising the pattern
Sweating that predictably starts during tense situations may have a strong anxiety component. Plantar hyperhidrosis describes excessive sole sweating beyond what heat or activity would suggest. Damp skin can become softened and irritated, and moist footwear creates conditions in which athlete's foot can flourish.
A sudden change, sweating during sleep or symptoms elsewhere in the body deserve attention because medicines and medical conditions can also increase sweating. A clinician may ask when it began, which areas are affected and what other symptoms occur.
Practical ways to manage moisture
Wash and dry the feet carefully, especially between the toes. Change damp socks, rotate breathable shoes and allow footwear to dry fully. Avoid sharing shoes or towels. A foot antiperspirant may help, but use it as directed and do not apply it to cracked or inflamed skin.
If basic measures are insufficient, a clinician can discuss prescription antiperspirant or iontophoresis. Anxiety care—such as breathing skills, talking therapy or treatment recommended by a mental health professional—may reduce stress-triggered episodes alongside skin-focused measures.
When sweating needs a medical review
Book an assessment if sweating starts abruptly, happens during sleep, affects daily activities or occurs with unexplained weight change, tremor, palpitations or medication changes. Painful cracks, spreading redness, warmth, swelling, pus or fever also need medical attention. Seek urgent help if heavy sweating occurs with chest pain, faintness or difficulty breathing.
Points to discuss with your clinician
Ask whether the pattern fits plantar hyperhidrosis, whether medicines or another condition need consideration, how to protect irritated skin, and which treatment suits your routine. Clarify where to apply any antiperspirant and what to do if burning or rash develops.

Questions people ask
Does sweaty feet mean I have anxiety?
No. Anxiety can trigger sweating, but heat, activity, plantar hyperhidrosis, medicines and other health issues can produce similar symptoms.
Can anxiety-related sweating cause athlete's foot?
Sweating does not itself prove a fungal infection, but persistent moisture can create a favourable environment. Itching, peeling or cracking should be assessed if it does not settle.
Can regular deodorant be used on feet?
A product labelled as an antiperspirant reduces sweat; deodorant mainly addresses odour. Check that the product is suitable for feet and avoid broken skin.
