They reduce the yeast responsible for the eruption. Clearing the yeast does not immediately return pale or dark areas to their usual colour; pigment may even out gradually after treatment.

A clinician may consider tablets when many body areas are involved, episodes keep returning, or correctly used creams or washes have not controlled the active scaling. A skin examination matters because several pigment conditions can resemble tinea versicolor but will not respond to antifungal medicine.

The medicine treats the current yeast overgrowth; it does not stop the organism from living normally on skin or prevent every future episode. Medicated washes or topical antifungals may still be suggested for active areas or recurrence prevention.

Give the prescriber a complete list of prescription medicines, non-prescription products, and supplements. Oral antifungals can interact with other medicines, and the appropriate choice depends on liver health, pregnancy or breastfeeding, and previous drug reactions. Take only the prescribed product and schedule; leftover tablets or another person's prescription may be unsuitable.

Follow the skin-care plan as well. Keep affected areas dry when practical, change out of sweat-soaked clothing, and use any prescribed shampoo or cream exactly as directed. Judge response by fading scale and fewer new patches rather than by an immediate colour match.

Seek urgent medical help for trouble breathing, facial or throat swelling, blistering, or a rapidly spreading rash after a dose. Stop and promptly contact the prescriber if you develop yellow skin or eyes, very dark urine, persistent vomiting, severe abdominal pain, or unusual exhaustion, because these can signal a serious medicine reaction.

Arrange reassessment if scale continues, patches spread, or the diagnosis remains uncertain after the planned course. Colour change alone can remain visible after the infection has been controlled and does not automatically mean more tablets are needed.
