The immune response and the routine vaccination schedule both influence timing. Babies may still carry antibodies passed from their mother, so a dose given unusually early for travel or an outbreak may require later routine doses. After vaccination, emergency care is needed for trouble breathing, swelling of the face or throat, collapse or widespread hives. Mild soreness at the injection site or a short-lived fever can usually be monitored, but persistent or concerning symptoms deserve clinical advice.
