What to Know About Antifungal Nail Treatment

Do not scrape deeply or remove a nail at home.

Book an assessment if the change is spreading, painful, affecting walking, returning after treatment or not improving with pharmacy care. Seek prompt care for redness, warmth, swelling, pus or rapidly worsening pain around the nail, as these can signal a skin infection that needs separate treatment.

Get professional advice early if you have diabetes, reduced circulation, reduced sensation in the feet or a weakened immune system. A new dark streak, bleeding without a clear injury, or pigment spreading onto the surrounding skin also needs examination rather than self-treatment as fungus.
