The term may refer to a veterinary vaccine, antibiotic or another animal-health preparation, and it may also be a mistranslated product name. A picture of the full packaging can help a pharmacist identify it. Human cholera is an intestinal infection that can cause sudden watery diarrhoea and dangerous fluid loss. Veterinary labelling does not establish that a product is suitable for a person, even when the disease name sounds familiar.

Do not swallow, inject or otherwise use the product yourself. Keep the container, ingredient list and any leaflet, and contact a pharmacist, doctor or poison service if anyone has already been exposed. For suspected cholera, begin an appropriate oral rehydration solution promptly if the person can drink and arrange medical assessment. Antibiotics and human cholera vaccines have specific indications and should be selected by a qualified clinician.

Seek urgent medical care for repeated profuse watery stools, inability to keep fluids down, marked thirst, very little urine, unusual sleepiness, confusion, fainting, or a weak or rapidly worsening person. These signs can reflect severe dehydration and need assessment without delay. After accidental use of a veterinary product, get urgent help for breathing difficulty, facial swelling, collapse, a seizure or severe vomiting. Take the packaging with you, but do not induce vomiting unless a clinician specifically directs it.

Ask whether the exposure needs poison-centre advice, which ingredients are relevant, and what symptoms should be monitored. If travel prompted the question, discuss whether a licensed human cholera vaccine is appropriate, how to obtain safe food and water, and which rehydration supplies to carry.
