Choosing an anti-cellulite treatment

Short answer
Anti-cellulite treatments can reduce the appearance of dimpling, but the right option depends on skin laxity, tethered bands and your priorities.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.
At a glance
- Health status
- Cellulite is a common, harmless skin-surface feature
- Assessment clue
- Fixed dimples and loose-looking skin may need different approaches
- Treatment goal
- Improvement in appearance rather than complete removal
The short answer
No single approach suits every dimple. Some procedures target firm fibrous bands, others aim to tighten skin or change the appearance of the tissue, and several may require maintenance. Cellulite itself is harmless and treatment is optional.
Why treatment choice varies
The puckered surface develops through an interaction between fat, connective bands and the overlying skin. Weight loss alone may not eliminate it, and cellulite can be visible in people across different body sizes.
Deep, fixed depressions may call for a different strategy from broad rippling with loose skin. Massage or topical products may give a modest short-lived cosmetic change, while device-based, injectable or minor surgical procedures bring different recovery needs and risks.
Build a treatment plan around the dimple pattern
Start with an in-person assessment while standing, because dimples can change with posture and muscle tension. Point out the areas that bother you most and describe whether your priority is a subtle texture change, treatment of individual depressions or firmer-looking skin.
Ask the clinician to match each proposed step to the feature it targets. Review anaesthesia, downtime, bruising, pigment-change risk, scarring risk and aftercare. Stable weight, regular movement and skin care may support general skin health, but they do not make structural cellulite a personal failure.
When a change is not typical cellulite
Arrange medical assessment for a new area that is painful, hot, red, rapidly swollen, distinctly one-sided or associated with a firm growing mass. Ordinary cellulite creates surface dimpling and should not cause fever, an open wound, drainage or sudden limb swelling.
After a procedure, urgent review is warranted for escalating pain, blistering, spreading redness, dusky skin, loss of sensation, pus or fever. Contact the treating clinician early rather than applying another cosmetic product over the reaction.
Questions to compare options
Ask which anatomical feature is being treated, how much change is realistic for your skin, how improvement will be documented and whether upkeep is expected. Confirm who performs the procedure, what training they have, and how the clinic handles burns, infection, contour irregularity or scarring.

Questions people ask
Can exercise get rid of cellulite?
Exercise can change muscle tone and body composition, but it does not directly release the connective bands that contribute to dimpling.
Which cellulite procedure should I choose?
Choice depends on whether tethered depressions, broad texture changes or skin laxity dominate, as well as your tolerance for recovery and risk.
Is cellulite a medical problem?
Cellulite is usually a harmless variation in skin appearance. Pain, heat, sudden swelling or a growing lump should be assessed for another cause.
