A product sold for muscle spasm may combine a muscle-relaxing ingredient with pain relief. The muscle-relaxing component can reduce uncomfortable tightening, while the analgesic component can lessen pain. Symptom relief does not establish why the spasm developed or repair the underlying tissue.

Possible effects can include sleepiness, dizziness, blurred vision, dry mouth, constipation, nausea, or difficulty passing urine, depending on the formulation. Other health conditions and medicines may alter the risk, which is why the pack and prescription details matter.

Take only the amount shown on your prescription or dispensing label. Check every pain, cold, flu, and sleep product for repeated active ingredients, and ask a pharmacist before combining them. Do not share the medicine or use a leftover pack for a new episode without clinical advice.

Avoid alcohol and do not drive, cycle in traffic, operate machinery, or work at height if alertness or vision is affected. Tell the clinician about pregnancy, breastfeeding, glaucoma, urinary retention, bowel obstruction, liver or kidney problems, heart rhythm concerns, and all other medicines you use.

Prompt medical advice is also needed for a blistering rash, yellow skin or eyes, persistent vomiting, a very fast or irregular heartbeat, or inability to pass urine.

Have the original pack available when seeking help. Arrange a separate assessment if spasm follows a major injury or accompanies fever, worsening weakness, spreading numbness, difficulty walking, loss of bladder or bowel control, or numbness around the groin.
