Allegra for itchy skin

It is an antihistamine. It can reduce itch and welts when histamine is involved, yet dryness, eczema, psoriasis, scabies, fungal infection and internal medical causes require different management.

Fexofenadine is generally less sedating than some antihistamines, but individual reactions vary. Avoid driving if you feel sleepy or dizzy. Seek tailored advice for a child, during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with kidney problems, or when taking other medicines.

Emergency help is required for breathing difficulty, faintness, wheezing, or swelling of the lips, tongue or throat. An antihistamine must not delay emergency treatment for a severe allergic reaction.

Arrange assessment for itch that is widespread, persistent, repeatedly returns, disrupts sleep, or occurs with fever, yellow skin, unexplained weight change, painful skin, blisters or a rapidly spreading rash. Get advice if symptoms do not respond as expected.
