Suitability depends on skin tone, hair colour and thickness, recent sun exposure, medicines, and the condition of the treatment area.

Alexandrite energy is absorbed by pigment in the hair and converted to heat around the follicle. Hair grows in cycles, so follicles do not all respond at the same visit; a course is usually planned rather than treating the area once. Results are described as hair reduction because later regrowth can be finer or less dense, and maintenance may be useful.

A clinician should choose settings for your skin and target rather than using one standard programme. A test area may help assess the skin response, particularly after tanning or when pigment changes are a concern.
