What to Expect After Plasma Pen Treatment

Follow the treating clinician’s cleansing and product instructions, keep your hands off the crusts, and protect the area from sun and friction. Healing varies with the treatment site, treatment intensity and your skin response.

A plasma device creates closely spaced points of controlled surface injury. The small dark dots or crusts reflect those treatment points; they should loosen on their own rather than being scrubbed or picked away. Redness and puffiness arise from the local healing response and can be more noticeable around the eyelids.

Freshly treated skin can be sensitive to irritating products and ultraviolet light. Disturbing the crusts or exposing the area to unprotected sun may worsen inflammation or uneven colour, particularly in skin that readily develops dark marks after irritation.

Wash or dab the area only as directed, using clean hands and no rubbing. Apply only the aftercare products approved by your clinician. Avoid exfoliants, retinoids, fragranced products, makeup over broken skin, hot baths, saunas, swimming and strenuous activity until your clinician says the surface has settled.

Do not peel the dots. Reduce rubbing from clothing, masks or eyewear, and use shade and the recommended sunscreen once the surface can tolerate it. If treatment was near the eyes, sleep with your head raised if advised and check before using cold packs or eye products.

Contact the treating clinic promptly if pain, redness or swelling is getting worse instead of settling, or if you develop spreading warmth, pus, a bad smell, fever, new blisters or an unexpected open wound. These changes can indicate infection, a burn or delayed healing and deserve an examination.

Seek urgent care for trouble breathing, swelling of the lips or tongue, sudden vision changes, severe eye pain, inability to open an eye, or rapidly increasing swelling around the eye. Do not apply an unapproved medicine to mask these symptoms.

Ask which cleanser, moisturiser and sunscreen suit the treated site; when makeup, exercise and active skin products may restart; and how to send a clear photograph if healing concerns arise. Also confirm what colour changes are expected for your skin tone and who to contact outside clinic hours.
