What to expect after chin filler

After chin filler, mild swelling, tenderness, firmness and bruising can occur while the product settles and the injection sites recover. The chin may initially look fuller, uneven or more projected than the eventual result because swelling can distort the shape. Follow the injector's individual instructions and avoid pressing or reshaping the area unless they specifically advise it.

Small injection-point bumps, local sensitivity and temporary asymmetry can reflect tissue swelling rather than the final contour. A hyaluronic acid filler also draws water into the treated area, so appearance can change during early recovery. A hard, increasingly painful, pale or dusky area is different from routine tenderness and warrants urgent assessment.

Keep the injection sites clean, handle the chin gently and use only products approved by your clinician. A wrapped cool pack may help swelling if it is applied lightly without sustained pressure. Postpone strenuous exercise, high heat, alcohol and facial treatments for the period your injector recommends. Sleep in a position that does not compress the chin, and contact the clinic before attempting massage.

Contact the treating clinic urgently for severe or worsening pain, skin that turns white, grey, blue or mottled, cool skin, blisters, spreading redness, drainage, fever, or swelling that is rapidly increasing. Sudden blurred vision, loss of vision, severe eye pain, weakness, difficulty speaking or a severe new headache requires emergency medical care immediately. These symptoms should not wait for a routine follow-up.

Ask which filler was used, where it was placed, when the result should be assessed and whether your swelling pattern is expected. Confirm whom to contact outside clinic hours and what changes would require photographs or an in-person examination. If you take medicines that affect bleeding or have dental work planned, ask whether this changes your aftercare.
