What to expect after Aqualyx fat-dissolving injections

Follow the instructions provided by your injector because aftercare can differ with the body area, amount used and your medical history. Do not massage, apply products or use heat unless the clinic specifically advised it.

The injected solution triggers a local response around fat cells, so puffiness may initially make the area look larger rather than smaller. Small lumps or uneven firmness can reflect swelling within the tissue while it settles.

Aesthetic change is not judged immediately after treatment. The clinician should assess progress only after the early reaction has eased and can explain whether another appointment is appropriate.

Keep injection sites clean, avoid picking or scratching, and choose loose clothing that does not rub the area. A cool compress wrapped in clean fabric may feel soothing if your injector allows it; never place ice directly on skin.

Use only pain relief approved for you, especially if you take blood-thinning medicine or have stomach, kidney or bleeding problems. Postpone strenuous activity, hot baths, saunas and alcohol according to your clinic's instructions, and contact the clinic before adding massage or compression.

Contact the treating clinic promptly if pain or swelling is worsening rather than settling, redness is spreading, the skin becomes increasingly hot, fluid or pus appears, or you feel feverish or unwell. New blistering, marked colour change, an open wound, persistent numbness or weakness also requires prompt assessment.

Seek emergency help for breathing difficulty, throat or tongue swelling, faintness, rapidly developing facial swelling or other signs of a severe allergic reaction.

Ask which reactions fit the product and body area treated, whether a cold compress or pain medicine is suitable, and when exercise, skin products and massage can resume. Confirm whom to contact outside clinic hours and when photographs or an in-person check are needed.
