8 weeks pregnant with a septate uterus

Short answer
At eight weeks, a septate uterus usually calls for individualised obstetric review and monitoring, not treatment during pregnancy.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.
At a glance
- Next step
- Arrange obstetric review and bring previous imaging reports.
- During pregnancy
- Monitoring is planned around scan findings and your clinical history.
- Emergency signs
- Heavy bleeding, severe pain, shoulder-tip pain, or fainting need urgent assessment.
The short answer
A septum is a band of tissue that partly or more fully divides the inside of the uterus. Its size and the pregnancy's position can affect planning, so an ultrasound and review of any earlier imaging help your maternity team understand your situation.
What a septate uterus means in early pregnancy
The uterus developed with a central partition before birth; you did not cause it through exercise, sex, travel, or something you ate. Some people first learn about the septum during a pregnancy scan.
Your clinician will check that the pregnancy is inside the uterus, look for cardiac activity when appropriate, and describe where the pregnancy sits in relation to the septum. The finding can be confused with other uterine shapes, so previous scans or procedure notes may be useful.
What to do now
Arrange an early pregnancy or obstetric appointment and take along any report that diagnosed the septum. Keep taking prescribed pregnancy medicines and supplements unless the prescribing clinician changes them. Routine gentle activity is generally guided by how you feel and by advice specific to your pregnancy.
A septum is not normally removed while a pregnancy is developing. Operative hysteroscopy may be discussed outside pregnancy if future management is needed, but the decision depends on symptoms, pregnancy history, and confirmation of the uterine anatomy.
When to seek care
Contact your maternity service promptly for vaginal bleeding, worsening cramps, fluid-like discharge, fever, or pain that does not settle. Seek emergency care for heavy bleeding, severe or one-sided abdominal pain, shoulder-tip pain, fainting, marked weakness, breathing difficulty, or feeling acutely unwell. These symptoms require assessment in any early pregnancy and do not identify the cause by themselves.
Questions for your appointment
Ask whether the scan clearly confirms a septate uterus, where the pregnancy has implanted, and when another scan is appropriate. You can also ask who to contact after hours, whether your history changes later pregnancy monitoring, and whether review of the septum after pregnancy would be useful.

Questions people ask
Can a septate uterus be treated while I am pregnant?
Surgery to remove a uterine septum is generally considered outside an ongoing pregnancy. Your current care focuses on confirming the pregnancy findings, monitoring, and responding to symptoms.
Do I need to stop normal activities?
The diagnosis alone does not create one activity rule for everyone. Follow restrictions given for your own symptoms or scan findings, and seek advice if activity triggers pain or bleeding.
What information should I bring to my appointment?
Bring earlier ultrasound, MRI, hysteroscopy, or surgery reports if available, plus your pregnancy history and a list of medicines and supplements.
