Day 14 after embryo transfer: what happens now

Clinics calculate test timing from the transfer details, so their requested date takes priority over a general day count. A blood hCG measurement can confirm whether pregnancy hormone is present; a single value may need repeating to show how it is changing.

Light bleeding, pelvic twinges, breast changes and fatigue are not reliable ways to predict the test result. Progesterone can cause several of these effects, and an early pregnancy may produce none of them.

If the clinic test is positive, the fertility team may arrange another blood test or a later ultrasound and tell you how long to use hormonal support. If it is negative or unclear, the team will explain whether another sample is needed and when medicines should stop.

Complete the requested test at the stated time and make sure the clinic can reach you. Continue each prescription as directed while awaiting the result, even if bleeding has begun or a home test looks negative.

Choose gentle daily movement if comfortable and follow any personalised restrictions given after the procedure. For pain or fever, check with a clinician or pharmacist before taking a medicine that was not already approved for you during this treatment cycle.

Call your fertility service the same day if you develop escalating abdominal pain, increasing bleeding, significant swelling, ongoing vomiting or noticeably less urine. They may need to assess treatment-related complications or another cause.

Go for urgent assessment if pain is severe or mainly on one side, or if you have fainting, shoulder-tip pain, chest pain, shortness of breath or bleeding that soaks through pads rapidly. Do not wait for a scheduled call about the pregnancy test when these signs occur.

Ask for the precise medication plan for either result, whether the hCG measurement will be repeated, and the timing of any scan. It also helps to clarify which symptoms should prompt an after-hours call and which service to use if the clinic is closed.
