10 Weeks Pregnant and Spotting When You Wipe

Spotting when you wipe at 10 weeks of pregnancy can come from the cervix or other causes, but contact your maternity clinician for advice because bleeding in pregnancy needs assessment. A small amount of pink, red, or brown blood does not by itself show what is happening with the pregnancy. The amount, colour, timing, and any accompanying symptoms help guide the next step.

During pregnancy, the cervix has increased blood flow and can bleed after sex, an examination, or sometimes without an obvious trigger. Irritation or an infection can also cause bleeding. Use a sanitary pad rather than a tampon so you can observe the amount and colour. Note when the spotting began and whether it followed sex or an examination. Contact your obstetrician, midwife, maternity unit, or an urgent-care service today for personalised advice, even if it stops. Follow the instructions you receive about monitoring, examination, and activity. Do not start medicines or stop prescribed treatment without checking first.

Seek emergency care now if bleeding is heavy or rapidly increasing, you pass clots or tissue, or you have severe or worsening abdominal pain. Get urgent help for one-sided pain, shoulder-tip pain, fainting, marked dizziness, fever, or feeling very unwell. These symptoms can signal a complication that needs prompt assessment. If you cannot reach your maternity team, use local emergency services. Do not drive yourself if you feel faint or unsafe.

Ask: What level of bleeding should prompt an emergency visit? Do I need an examination or ultrasound? Should I avoid sex or strenuous activity until the bleeding has stopped? Is my blood group relevant to the care I need? What symptoms should I monitor overnight, and who should I contact if they appear?
